In this study, we wanted to learn about what parents think about a knowledge translation tool on vaccination pain management that was created by our team of researchers using the best available evidence-based information about pain management for vaccinations and published by ParentsCanada, a popular Canadian parenting magazine. This tool was intended to help parents manage their children’s vaccination pain by providing tips for handling vaccination appointments.
Our results showed that when the information in a knowledge translation tool provided to parents is relevant to the needs and questions they have about managing needle pain, parents are more likely to use the tool to manage their child’s vaccination pain and feel more confident in doing so. Positive and supportive interactions with health care providers also help set the stage for parents being able to use knowledge translation tools successfully during their child’s vaccination.
Thank you to all the families who took part in our survey.
