Recently my 6 year old required a IV for a medical procedure. He has a lot of scar tissue from previous IV’s and central lines so it can be very difficult to get an IV in.

After taking part in the #ItDoesntHaveToHurt campaign, I was a much better advocate for my child. I held him while they tried to get the IV in, we used an IPad to distract him, we put EMLA cream on the places where they planned to try to insert the IV and also warmed up his veins before attempting again to get the IV in.

It was a rough day for him but we were a team and we got through the day together!
